Marcus Layfett Strickland, age 86, a resident of Abbeville, Alabama passed way Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama following an extended illness.
Graveside services will be held Monday, March 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Adams Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Clayton, Alabama with Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Clayton directing.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations can be made to Adams Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
Marcus was born May 4, 1935, in Blue Springs, Alabama to the late Elbert Jackson Strickland and Mary Lessie Helms Strickland. He was a farmer and loved his cows. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, knives, guns, gardening, and Auburn Football. Marcus was a member of Adams Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Chalmas Strickland, Angus Strickland, and Virgil Strickland; four sisters, Addie Mae Long, Laura Johnson, Rosa Lee Fenn, and Ruth Walker.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Vonnie Winona Hartzog Strickland; son, Marcus Layfett Strickland II (Tamara) of Clayton, Alabama; three daughters, Lisa Strickland Finlayson (Allen) of Eufaula, Alabama, Donna Sue Floyd of Louisville, Alabama, and Sandra Kellett (David) of Athens, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Mark Warren Strickland, Nathan David Strickland, Al Finlayson, Andrew Finlayson (Catherine), Blaire Finlayson, Maggie Kellett, and Annie Kellett; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Finlayson and several nieces and nephews.
