Margaret Ann Avery Crawford
Margaret Ann Avery Crawford, a resident of Dothan, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013. She was 75.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert C. Oates and Rev. Robert E. Baxter officiating. A private burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary one hour prior to services on Friday.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 3012 W. Main Street, Dothan, Alabama, 36305.
Mrs. Crawford was born June 26, 1937 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was a 1955 graduate of Tuscaloosa High School. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 1959 with a degree in food and nutrition. Mrs. Crawford was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. In 1959, she married Rut Crawford and they moved to Dothan and raised three daughters. Mrs. Crawford was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was head of the flower committee for several years.
Mrs. Crawford is predeceased by her parents, Arnold Pierson Avery and Nell Daniel Avery.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Edward Rutledge Crawford, Jr. of Dothan; three daughters, Ann Avery Crawford Gilmore (Paul) of Houston, TX, Mary Catherine Crawford Barnette (Chris) of Houston, TX, Nancy Harris Crawford Egge (Dennis) of Dothan; four grandchildren, Mary Ryan Gilmore, Paul Rutledge Gilmore, Mary Melissa Barnette and Sarah Katharine Egge; a sister, Mary Sue Avery Durant; a brother, Arnold Pierson Avery, Jr. (Cecil); several nieces and nephews also survive.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Pete Barkley, Bill Blount, Jack Brown, Wynne Coleman, Dr. Jack Real and Dr. Press Thornton.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Fred Garner Men’s Bible Class of First Presbyterian Church.
