Mrs. Margaret Ann Teresa Norton Bowdoin of New Brockton, Alabama passed away the morning of Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the family residence. She was 79.
Funeral services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in the Chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory in Enterprise. Burial will follow in New Brockton City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m.
Mrs. Bowdoin was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 18, 1934 and spent 16 years in Philly until she met her handsome sailor. She and Lt. Cmdr. Bernarr Bowdoin shared 59 years together and raised two sons, Joseph Richard “Rick” and Steven Philip “Steve”. Peggy lost her sweet husband four years ago.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives: Rick (Sue) and Steve (Carmen); a brother: Joe Norton (Marie), and her sister: Joan Milstead. Grandmom will always be remembered as a beloved grandmother to Melissa Bowdoin, Jamie (Bowen) Raymond, Douglas (Heidi) Bearden, and Jessica Bowdoin, and as a wonderful great grandmother to Cassie Casteel.
After receiving her Associate Degree from Enterprise State Junior College, Miss Peggy went on to work with the 1980 census and several agricultural censuses. She also enjoyed helping her community by working the New Brockton election polls. Peggy earned the nickname “Miss Piggy” while bowling with the Thursday night Gutterettes, one of her most joyous activities. Miss Peggy made countless friends over her 79 years, and her family appreciates all of the love and support.
