Margaret W. Saloom, 92, passed away on July 5, 2014.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Enterprise City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Enterprise directing.
The family has asked for those who desire to make a contribution to do so by donating to the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Enterprise, Alabama.
Mrs. Saloom was born in Elizabeth City, NC June 20, 1922 to the late Mickel Mitry and Mary Shdeed Nehra Wehbie. She grew up in Raleigh, NC, graduating from Hugh Morson High School in 1940. While working for the Department of Defense in Washington, DC during World War II, she met and married George B. Saloom on October 6, 1946 in Raleigh, NC.
Margaret joined her husband in Enterprise, AL, along with her father-in-law, Burgess Saied Saloom, her mother-in-law, Manera Saliba Saloom and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law and was involved in the Saloom Department Store and later Saloom Shoe Store in downtown, Enterprise, Al, next to the Boll Weevil Monument. She also worked for Saad’s Jewelry Store in Dothan, Al and traveled back and forth from Enterprise.
Margaret loved to cook, especially Lebanese Food, and dance. She was always very independent and self-reliant, even cutting her own lawn until she was in her late 70s.
For the past 10 years, Margaret was a resident of Westgate Village in Brewton, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Saloom.
Survivors include her 4 children, B. George Saloom, Buford, GA and his wife, Deborah , Dr. Salem G. Saloom and his wife, Dianne Brewton, Al, Getta S. Jones and her husband, Billy , Enterprise, AL, and Jimmy G. Saloom and his wife, Karen of Brewton; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by only one of her 8 siblings, Nellie M Kahdy, Chapel Hill, NC.
The family offers its sincerest and deepest gratitude to all those at Westgate Village who provided compassionate and outstanding comfort and care to Margaret during her stay. The family also expresses its appreciation to Sorrells Funeral Home for their kind and special services to the Saloom Family.
