ABBEVILLE. . .Maria “Mia” Hesselmaier-Ambos, a resident of Abbeville, died Saturday morning, October 19, 2024, at her home. She was 86.

          There are no funeral or memorial services planned at this time. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

          Maria was born in Bliesen, Germany, daughter of the late  Michel Ambos and Rosa Meier Ambos. She lived in Heppenheim, Germany many years. Maria retired as a Midwife in Germany after delivering six-thousand babies over a span of forty years. She moved to Pebble Cove Road on Lake Eufaula in Henry County, Alabama in 1998. Maria was affiliated with Holy Redeemer Catholic Church of Eufaula. She was very passionate and full of life and enjoyed bringing babies into the world. Maria loved her family and was always there for them. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Eugen Hesselmaier, a son, Albert Ambos, a sister, Antonia, and a brother, Albert.

          Surviving relatives include two daughters, Simone Miller (Jereme),  Abbeville; and Isabelle Crall (John), Rockhill, SC; grandchildren, Julia and Swen both of Germany; Jeremy (Brittany), Josie-Marie (Richie), Jennifer (Alex), Austin (Jessy), Dakota, Nicholas and Tucker, all of the United States; great-grandchildren, Damon, Rick, Alysa, Brian, Darrell of the United States; and Lea and Malena both of Germany.

          The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice, especially Angie Jones and also a close friend of the family, Jereme, for the loving care and kindness shown to “Mia” during her illness.
