Marianne Tongret, 89, of Daleville passed from this life to her eternal home on February 24, 2016 at her home with family present. Previously residing in Hampton Virginia, she was a resident of Daleville for over 10 years.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 28 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory in Daleville from 2:00 until 4:00 PM. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Charles on March 4 at Hampton Memorial Gardens in Hampton, Virginia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at the cemetery chapel
Marianne was born in Schweinfurt, Germany to parents Friedrich and Marie Jung. She was a survivor of World War II having endured the hardships of war during her youth. As a teenager, she was conscripted as a hospital medical aide and on March 16, 1945 she survived the firebombing of Wurzburg, Germany while helping to evacuate patients from the city’s burning hospital. She then walked 35 miles to her home in Schweinfurt as the city of Wurzburg lay in ruins. Shortly after the end of the war, Marianne was employed by the U. S. Army and worked various assignments in Germany over the next 13 years. She was proud of the numerous commendations and the recognition she received for her outstanding job performance in support of the post-war U. S. Army, Europe. In 1959, she married Sergeant First Class Charles Tongret and shortly after immigrated to the United States with him. Following his military career, they retired in Hampton, Virginia. Marianne was a dedicated housewife and devoted mother, providing her children with blessed childhoods. With a quiet yet strong faith, she loved and supported her family and friends. She was also a cat lover. She had a keen sense of fashion, was a skilled seamstress, loved to shop and travel. She will be greatly missed.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Master Sergeant U.S. Army (Retired) Charles Tongret and brother Richard Jung. She is survived by her three children Charles Tongret (Laurie Hoyle), Daleville, Claudia Wigglesworth (Charles), Daleville, Petra Casipit (Tony), Occoquan Virginia, grandson Joshua Tongret, step grandsons John and Wayne Wigglesworth and six step great-grandchildren.
Special thanks goes to caregivers Amy and Rosemary from Home Instead and the medical staff of Gentiva Home Health and Hospice, all of whom provided exceptional comfort and care.
