Marie was born in Hartford, Alabama on November 18, 1929. She attended Wicksburg High, in Newton, Alabama, where she was a Varsity Cheerleader. She is a graduate of Campbell Business College in Dothan. Marie began her busines career as the Credit Manager, for Kraselsky’s Department Store, in Dothan. She also modeled for Kraselsky’s, and other retail stores in Dothan, during that time. Marie then became Office Manager of the Dothan Chamber of Commerce. In her mid-20s, she moved to Dothan Federal Savings and Loan, to be the Assistant to the President, and then a Loan Officer. Dothan Federal is where she met her husband of 43 years, Bart. Marie and Bart had two children, Bart III, and Elizabeth. After her children were older, she became a real estate broker, and worked in the real estate, and mortgage loan business for a number of years. The couple moved back home, to Dothan, in the late 1980s. Many in Dothan, will remember her from her years at Ted’s Jewelers. Her husband, Bart, passed away in 2000. Marie never remarried. She spent her last years in Dothan, with her lifelong friends. She was active in her garden club, and her Sunday school class, at First Baptist Church, in Dothan. In 2016, she moved to The Cottages, at St. Martin’s in the Pines, her final home, here on earth. Marie was involved in many activities, throughout her life. She served as President of the Dothan Jaycettes, and the Garden Study Club of Dothan. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Marie will be missed by many.

She is survived by her son; Bart Nelson III, and her daughter; Elizabeth N Watson, (George).
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the dedicated, and loving staff of The Cottages, at St. Martin’s in the Pines, in Birmingham. They treated Marie like family, which was especially meaningful, during this time of limited visitation.
