MARIE  JOHNSON  CARR




ABBEVILLE. . .Marie Roberts Johnson Carr, a resident of Abbeville, died Sunday morning, March 9, 2014, in a Dothan hospital.  She was 83.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in the Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Tom Anderson officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, north of Skipperville.  Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Mrs. Carr was born and reared on Roberts Road in Barbour County, near Clio. She was the daughter of the late James Alexander Roberts and Lola Bell Thompson Roberts. Mrs. Carr was a graduate of Clio High School and received a degree in Elementary Education from Troy University. She furthered her education at the University of Alabama and later received a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Auburn University.  Mrs. Carr moved to Abbeville in 1953. She retired from the Henry County Board of Education as an elementary school teacher at the Abbeville Elementary School.


            Mrs. Carr was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir and participated in most church activities. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Daniel Johnson, and Floyd Carr, her daughter, Angie Johnson Hall, a sister, Mildred Smith, and her brothers, Perry, Tillman, Jerome, Pate, Pat, Holman, and Jimmy Roberts.


            Surviving relatives include two sons, Donald Greg Johnson (Diane), Abbeville; Pat Craig Johnson, Dothan; a step-son, Chuck Carr (Pam), Chattanooga, TN; six grandchildren,  Daniel Johnson (Jamie), Ehren Johnson, Joey Hall (Tina), Danielle Russell (Peyton), Dillon Johnson (Brittany), and Jess Johnson; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
