Mrs. Marjorie Brunson Pittman passed on at her home in Enterprise, AL at the age of 97 on Friday, May 22, 2020.
She was the wife of 68 years of Dr. John Edwin Pittman, Jr. of Enterprise, AL who predeceased her by 7 years. Marjorie was also predeceased by her siblings, William Lister Brunson (Carolyn), Grover Brunson, Jack R. Brunson (Edna), Pat Brunson Folmar (Ned), Jerry Burton Brunson; and granddaughter, Mollie Virginia Pittman.
She is survived by her five sons, John E. Pittman (Marilyn) of Miramar Beach, FL; William B. Pittman (Kathy) of Birmingham, AL; Craig S. Pittman (Janet) of Mobile, AL; Jerry B. Pittman (Emily) of Mobile, AL; and Donald S. Pittman of Enterprise, AL. Also surviving are grandchildren William Braden Pittman, Jr., Craig S. Pittman, Jr. (Sally), Jennifer Pittman Stoffel, Jerry B. Pittman, Jr., Sarah Pittman Coulter (Brad), Shannon Pittman Nielsen (Justin), Ashley Pittman Deans (Thomas), Rushing Pittman (Sara), Amy Spencer (David), Angie Sanders (Matthew), and Phillip Pittman, as well as fifteen great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Sarah Brunson (of the late Jerry Burton Brunson).
Marjorie was born in Elba, AL on November 21, 1922, a daughter to William Matthew Brunson and Annie Rushing Brunson. She grew up in Elba and was a member of the First Baptist Church. As an earnest proponent of education and the arts Marjorie graduated valedictorian of her class at Elba High School and later achieved a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at Alabama College, State College for Women (current day University of Montevallo). Marjorie was a valued member of the Enterprise community having served as a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, as president of The Enterprise Music Club, and on the board of directors for both the local YMCA and Coffee County Arts Alliance. She found joy in cooking, gardening, traveling, playing bridge, socializing, and most of all, caring for her family by whom she will be greatly missed.
The family gives special thanks to Sheila Arnette, Linda Davis, Linda Hataway, Elizabeth Payne, Linda Pouncey, Sheryl Tharp and Debbie Williams for aiding Marjorie in her final years. We were blessed to have Marjorie’s care in your gentle hands; we appreciate and are humbled by the dignity and grace you provided her.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Meadowlawn Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Dr. Olivia Poole and directed by Searcy Funeral Home. In light of this globally challenging time and with compassion for the wellness of all attendees, simple gestures of expressed sympathy, such as a warm smile and nod, will be cherished by the family.
