ASHFORD. . .Mark Edsel Deese, a resident of Ashford, died unexpectedly Thursday night, July 22, 2021, at his home. He was 58.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, July 25, 2021, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Perry F. Mobley officiating and eulogies to be given by family and friends. Burial will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1449 Medical Park Drive, Birmingham, AL 35213, or to a favorite charity.
Mark Deese was a lifelong resident of Ashford, son of the late Henry Edsel Deese and Jeanette Granberry Deese. He was a 1980 graduate of Ashford Academy. Mark was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Ashford and was affiliated with Wiregrass Church in Dothan. He was employed as an Agriculture Chemical Salesman with Two Way Trading Company, D.B.A Plantagra. In earlier years, Mark was engaged in farming. He formerly served on the Board of Directors of Ashford Academy. Mark served for many years as a volunteer with the National Peanut Festival in the agricultural division. Mark was a loyal and selfless friend and loved life, people and would do anything for anybody. He was married to the love of his life, Sue Anne, whom he met as a teenager forty years ago. He loved his family, his grandsons and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first granddaughter. Mark was also excited about his children and grandchildren moving back to the family farm that he dearly loved. He was a man of many talents, enjoyed the outdoors, operating any equipment and cooking for his family and friends. Mark could solve any problem and his favorite saying was, “We will figure it out”.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Sue Anne Howell Deese, two daughters, Whitney Deese Green (Hunter) and Emily Deese Ziegenfelder (Brandon), a son, Parker Deese (Lindsey), all of Ashford; a sister, Sue Ann Deese Lulling (Rick), Panama City Beach, Florida; four grandchildren, Carter Deese, Reid Deese, Henry Green and Thomas Ziegenfelder and a granddaughter on the way; a niece, Madison Nowell, a nephew, Seth Nowell (Meredith); his mother-in-law, Barbara Jackson; a sister-in-law, Rachel Waters (Jason), brothers-in-law, John Howell (Tina), James Howell, Eric Howell (Christy) and Daniel Howell (Andrea); and numerous other nieces and nephews
