Mark Thomas Cannon of Dothan, Alabama passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 24th, 2024. He was 58.
Mark was born in Izmir, Turkey in 1966 to Johnny Ray Cannon and Julia Gail Cannon. He grew up traveling the world as a military dependent and after high school continued these travels as a Navy man. Mark served as a “phone talker” on the USS Enterprise during his tenure and took great pride in his service to his country, remaining a staunch patriot until his death.
Mark was the kind of person you meet once in a lifetime~ Brilliantly funny and generous to a fault, especially to those who needed it most. He was kind. Fearless. Gregarious. Hard Working. The life of the party. Perfectly imperfect. He loved his family fiercely and was a devoted son, brother, and father for the short time his son lived. He loved music and had a singing voice that made any genre worth hearing. He woke up every day choosing happiness and made the world a brighter place just by being who he was. And because he truly understood that the world needs who YOU were created to be, he made it his life’s mission to touch everyone he encountered in a positive way, to leave people at least a little better than he found them.
For those of us fortunate to have known him, the world is less beautiful today.
He is preceded in death by his father, Johnny Ray Cannon Sr, and his son, Christian Thomas Cannon.
He is survived by his mother who he loved beyond all, Judy Lawhorn of Chancellor, Al; brother Johnny Ray Cannon Jr of Daleville, Al, sister Julianna Cannon of Enterprise, Al; and a myriad of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who he loved and by whom he was loved.
Funeral services will be at 11am Tuesday, October 29th at El Bethel Baptist Church where Mark was a member, 9432 N. AL 27, Chancellor, Al 36316 with Pastor Zachary Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary from 10-11am prior to the service.
