COWARTS, ALABAMA. . .Martha Broxton Steele, a resident of Cowarts, Alabama, died early Tuesday evening, June 18, 2024, in the Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. She was 87.


            Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 21, 2024, in Gardens of Memory, (between Headland & Dothan), with Reverend George Bryan officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Holman-Headland Mortuary.  Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of funeral arrangements.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 1330 South Boulevard, Chipley, FL 32428.


            Mrs. Steele was born and reared in Headland, daughter of the late Sidney M. Broxton and Donie Calloway Broxton. She lived in Cowarts since 1970. Mrs. Steele was formerly employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the office of Dr. Buren Wells in Dothan and had also been employed at Southeast Health. She attended Eastside Free Will Baptist Church in Dothan. Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Steele and a sister, Genell Weeks.


            Surviving relatives include two sons, Keith Steele (Paula), Cowarts; and Sammy Bagwell (Pattie), Cowarts; grandchildren, Emily Steele Bond (Matt), Matt Steele (Mary), and Jason Bagwell; great-grandchildren, Bailee Bertsch, Kasen Bertsch, Leila Steele and Luke Steele and a nephew, Freddy Weeks.
