Martha Carpenter Skeen, a resident of Midland City, died Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2015, in a Dothan hospital. She was 79.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 24, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Jennifer Carpenter and Reverend Jimmy Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, between Clopton and Edwin. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friend from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the home of a great-niece, Windy Ward, 13334 State Hwy. 605, Midland City, AL 36350.


            Flowers will be accepted.


            Mrs. Skeen, daughter of the late Otis Irving Goff and Viola Williams Goff, was born near Baker Hill, and reared in Barbour County between Blue Springs and Edwin. She lived in the Capps Community in Henry County before moving to Midland City in 1996.  Mrs. Skeen was retired from Wex-Tex Mfg. Co. in Headland and Ashford after forty five years employment. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Winston Carpenter and Wilson Skeen; a sister, Rilla Mae Key; a brother-in-law, Marion H. Key and a nephew, Otis Key.


            Surviving relatives include a nephew, Jack Key (Donna), Headland; a late nephew’s wife, Jeanette Key, Midland City; three great-nieces, Windy Ward (Lee), Jan Tracy (Johnny), Nicole McCook (Joey); three great-nephews, Don Key, Mark Key (Carina), and Doug Wells;  several great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
