MARTHA JEAN MURPHY
DOTHAN. . . Martha Jean Murphy, a resident of The Terrace At Grove Park, Dothan, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in the Extendicare Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dothan. She was 83.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday, June 15, 2012, in Gardens of Memory with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Holman Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, PO Box 1045, Dothan, AL 36302.
Jean Murphy was born in Minden, Louisiana, daughter of the late Marion Bunyan Murphy and Lucille Smith Murphy. She received her B.A. Degree from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana and her Master’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. Jean retired after more than thirty years in the public school systems, most of the years teaching second grade at Waller Elementary, Bossier City, Louisiana. She moved to Dothan in 2010 to be near her relatives. Jean had a wonderful attitude, a zest for life and was loved by all who knew her. She was of the United Methodist faith.
Surviving relatives included special cousins, Lillian Falkner, Headland; Jack (Ann) Murphy, Capps, Alabama; and Cornelia (Jimmy) King, Headland; special and longtime friends, Pat Christian, Nashville, Tennessee; Charles Gleason, Shreveport, Louisiana; Helen Riley, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Carolyn Crews, Headland; and her beloved Shih Tzu “Katie”
