ABBEVILLE. . .Martha Jenkins Coates, a resident of Abbeville, died Wednesday night, November2, 2022, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 89.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 5, 2022, in the Chester Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Larry Sowell officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the church sanctuar
Ms. Coates was born and reared in Clayton, Alabama, daughter of the late Augustus Tinsley Jenkins and Maude Robinson Jenkins. She lived in Montgomery many years before moving to the Screamer community of Henry County in 1979. Ms. Coates was a member of the Chester Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Armstrong, four sisters, Sara Adams, Helen DeVane, Mildred Coates and Lois Dansby and also a brother, Jack Jenkins.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Renee’ Coates McNeill (Mike), Tallahassee, FL; two sons, Tim Coates (Faye), and Charlie Coates (Sandy), all of Abbeville; a sister, Betty Jean Hines, Birmingham; grandchildren, Chance Armstrong, Kristal McNeill Hawkes (Kenneth), Keely Coates Price (Dexter), Brian Coates, Landon McNeill and Tyler Coates (Audrey); several great-grandchildren.
