Martha Kallesser Day Smith of Samson, AL passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018. She was 91.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Branch officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. Graveside services will be held at a later date at St. Isadores Cemetery in Quakertown, PA with C.R. Strunk Funeral Home directing.
In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, 709 John H. Day Rd, Samson, AL 36477 or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 123 Heath St, Enterprise, AL 36330.
Mrs. Smith was born in Freeland, PA on July 4, 1926 to the late Andrew and Susan Stershic Kallesser. Mrs. Smith owned Marty’s Ceramic shop, sharing her love and talent of ceramics with numerous people for over 65 years. She found great joy in crocheting baby blankets and sharing them with her many friends over the years. She enjoyed music, especially the children’s choir at Piney Grove Baptist Church and the Gaither’s gospel concerts. Christmas was an especially fun time for her, sharing her home with children and family hosting parties and gatherings.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 25 years, James Maurice Day; her second husband of 18 years, Paul Allen Smith; two brothers, Thomas Kolessar and John Kollesser.
She is survived by one brother, Donald Kolessar of Philadelphia, PA; two step-sons, Richard A. Smith of Temple, PA, and Paul A. Smith of Beaverton, OR; two brothers-in-law, Donald Day (Ann) of Pace, FL, and Eddie Day of Enterprise, AL; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Wise of Samson, Grace Weeks of Kinston, and Frances Day of Enterprise; several special nieces and nephews that were her heart; and many many dear friends.
