Martha Kate (Baxley) Roney, 88, a resident of Dothan, passed away early Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Westside Terrace following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Glover Funeral Home of Dothan with Reverend Robert Parnell officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery in Clayton, with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m., prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to, the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
Martha was born May 15, 1935, in Barbour County to the late Palace Cain Baxley & Tallie V. (Parmer) Baxley. She spent the early years of her life in Clayton and was a 1953 graduate of Abbeville High School. Shortly after graduation she moved to Columbus, Georgia, and worked as a bus driver for 8 years for the Muscogee County Schools. In 1986, she moved back home to Clayton, continuing her career as a school bus driver for 13 years with Barbour County Schools. Martha moved to Dothan in 2006, where she has resided for the last 17 years, she was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Roney, Jr., and her parents.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Ann Johansen (Kenny) of Hamilton, GA, and Kathy Galati (Frank) of Dawsonville, GA; two grandchildren, Leslie Ann Newton, and Kaleb King; four great-grandchildren, Whitley, Magnolia, Levi, and Rose; and several cousins.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Adams, Virgil Sellers, Jim Whaley, Steven Baxley, Steve Butler, Durwood Baxley, Dr. Andrew Maxwell, and Kenny Johansen.
