Martha “MawMaw” Luverne (Bowen) Devore, 78, a resident of Ashford, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Southeast Health following an extended illness.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Ashford City Cemetery (New Addition) with Pastor Jonathan Sorenson, Larue Lee, & Billy Jones officiating with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
Luverne was born September 10, 1945, in Henry County to the late Christopher William & Elizabeth Hilson Bowen. She spent the early years of her life in Ashford and was a 1963 graduate of Ashford High School. Luverne was a military wife, who served as a seamstress for the soldiers, and later worked for many years at Wex-Tex. Although she never had children of her own, she was known as “MawMaw” to all of her nieces and nephews and loved them dearly. She was of Methodist faith and will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Annette Jones; and brother-in-law, Cecil Whitehurst.
She is survived by, two brothers, Christopher Bowen of Ashford, and Gene Bowen (Elaine) of Montgomery; three sisters, Fovitte Whitehurst of Ashford, Margarette Stewart (Buddy) of Pansey, and Judy Lee (Larue) of Ashford; brother-in-law, Billy Jones (Donna) of Troy; a host of nieces and nephews who knew her as “MawMaw”.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Enhabit Home Health as well as the nurses and staff of the Southeast Health Neurocritical Care Unit.
