OZARK…. Ms. Mary Ann Alcuri Johnson, a resident of Ozark, died early Sunday morning, January 19, 2020 in a Dothan hospital. She was 73.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 21, 2020 in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Hart and Reverend James Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Ariton Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dorcas Mission Sewing Room c/o Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1124 County Road 11, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
Mary Ann, daughter of the late Anthony Joseph Alcuri, Sr. and Nettie Lee Dickey Alcuri, was a native of the Roeton Community of Coffee County. She was retired as an insurance agent with USAgencies. Mary Ann was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was a participant in the Dorcas Mission Sewing Room. She enjoyed sewing and had her own sewing area at Ozark Health & Rehabilitation Center where she was a resident. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Portwood; a son, Jeff Portwood and a brother, Ray Alcuri.
Surviving relatives include her daughter, Carin Portwood Hughes (Lee), Ozark; her son, Jonathan Batchelor (Ashley), San Antonio, TX; a brother, Anthony J. Alcuri, Jr., Roeton Community; seven grandchildren, Meagan Fenn (Adam), Taylor Portwood (Anna), Clay Hughes (Olivia), Courtney Batchelor, Carlee Hughes, Karis Batchelor, and Angela Batchelor; one great-granddaughter on the way; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Taylor Portwood, Clay Hughes, Anthony Alcuri, Jr., Randy Laney, Stevie Laney, and Jerry Gurski.
