Mary Estelle Simmons

Mary Estelle Simmons, a resident of Cowarts, AL passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at her residence. She was 84.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 4:00 pm in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Simmons officiating. Burial will take place in Old Tabernacle Cemetery in New Brockton, AL. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for 1 hour prior to the service.

Mary was born on July 1, 1936 in Alabama to late J.D. and Annie Knowles. She was a godly woman who loved to attend church. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and would light up any room she entered. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Simmons; her daughter, Charlotte Skaburn; her son, Gerald Stephenson; and her siblings, Bernice, Lillian, Pansey, Gerald, Bobby and Sammy.

Survivors include her children, Johnny (Jeanetta) Simmons of Cowarts, AL, Jane Simmons of Cowarts, AL, Luke (Nina) Simmons of Dothan, AL, Lib (Tim) Jones of Griffin, GA and Mike (Wanda) Poland of Jacksonville, AL; her grandchildren, Danielle, Jason, Nicole, Janice, Christopher, Michael, Chris, Rebekah and Sarah; her great grandchildren, Cahlin, Owen, Alayna, Carson, Abby Kate, MJ, John John, Haley and Ethan; her siblings, Doris Martin, Dot Stanton and Dwight Knowles; her sister-in-law, Florene McKinney; and a host of extended family and friends.
