ABBEVILLE. . .Mary Frances Howerton “Tud” Stinson, a resident of Abbeville, died Sunday night, November 22,  2015, at her home. She was 83.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 24, 2015, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Ryan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary. At other times, the family will be at the home of her daughter, Pam Murphy.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Abbeville “Kitchen Fund”, P.O. Box 606, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Mrs. Stinson was born and reared in the Wesley Community of Henry County, daughter of the late John Sullivan Howerton and Hattie Mae Barron Howerton. She lived in the Screamer Community before moving to Abbeville in 1972. Mrs. Stinson was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the W.M.U., volunteered in the kitchen, and formerly taught a Sunday school class. In earlier years, she was member of the Judson Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday school. Mrs. Stinson was retired from WestPoint Stevens as Customer Return Clerk after forty-four years employment. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wayne (Charlie) Stinson, her son-in-law, Amos Murphy, great-granddaughters, Aaliyah and Haley Scoggins, four brothers, John Howerton, Fred Howerton, Bill Howerton and Hank Howerton, and her former husband, Walter Britt Ludlam.


            Surviving relatives include her daughter, Pamela Ludlam Murphy, Abbeville; two granddaughters, Tina Murphy (Charlie Mack) and Gina Murphy Scarbrough (Nate), a step- grandson, Chuck Murphy (Gina); and a great-grandson, Mason Scarbrough; a sister-in-law, Mary Watford Howerton; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Sean Stinson, Chris Daughtry, Michael Rollins, Todd Ward, Darren Sanchez, Bobby Joe Espy and Rusty Norton.
