MARY HELEN WHATLEY LEATHERWOOD


HEADLAND… Mary Helen Whatley Leatherwood, a resident of Headland, Alabama, passed away early Friday morning, November 1, 2024, at a Dothan hospital. She was 82.


          Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 5331 Highway 125, Brundridge, Alabama, with Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.


          Mrs. Leatherwood was born in Pinckard, Alabama to the late Karl Howard Whatley and Mary Elizabeth Judah Whatley. She retired from Troy University in Troy, Alabama. She was of the Baptist faith.


          Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Edward Leatherwood; by her daughter, Melissa L. Leatherwood; her son, Bo Leatherwood; and her grandson, Johnnie Wilson.


          Leaving to cherish her memories is her sister, Barbara Jean Whatley Gattis (Wade); her brother, Jimmy “Dick” Whatley (Linda); her granddaughter, Molly Wilson (Brayden); her nieces, Kimberly Elizabeth Whatley Strickland and Kellie Nicole Whatley Key (Drew); and her great-nephews, Maddox Mason Strickland and Karter Davis Strickland.
