Mary Hilda Williams, known to all as Hilda, made her grand exit from this world on May 5, 2023, after an extended illness that just couldn't keep up with her spirit. Born in Echo, Alabama on April 4, 1939, to Cletus Eli Sketoe, Sr. and Idell Robinson Sketoe, Hilda lived a life filled with laughter, music, and an undying love for her family and cats. She always joked that she entered the world with a bang and left with a chuckle.
Hilda spent her early years in Echo, where she was a proud member of Echo Church. She later moved to Dothan, where she continued to spread her unique brand of joy. .
Hilda's love for her family was rivaled only by her love for her cats. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cletus Eli Sketoe, Sr. and Idell Robinson Sketoe, her brother Cletus Eli Sketoe, Jr., and her sister, Peggy McDaniel. She is survived by her loving children, Brent Williams and Yvette Williams, her cousin Annette Lemacks, her niece, Kim McDaniel, her cats, Felix and Goldie and a collection of special friends who she considered family. Hilda joins her beloved cats, Callie, Kitty, Forester, Candi, and Drew Brees, who she often joked were the real rulers of her home.
Hilda's life was a symphony of laughter and love, with her children always at the center. She took great pride in their successes and was always ready with a joke or a hug when they needed it most. Her love for her children was so strong that she often joked she could feel their presence even when they were miles away.
Hilda's legacy will live on through the many lives she touched with her loving, friendly, and kind nature. Her ability to make friends with anyone, anywhere, was a testament to her genuine warmth and caring spirit. She leaves behind a world that is a little less bright without her laughter, but one that is forever changed for the better because she was in it.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Echo Church, 129 County Road 83, Ozark, AL 36360. So, as we say goodbye to our beloved Hilda. May your journey to the great beyond be filled with laughter, love and all the cat snuggles you could ever want.
