MARY HORNE HARTZOG
CLAYTON, ALABAMA…Mary Lily Horne Hartzog, former resident of the Edgefield Community in Barbour County and Dothan, Alabama, died unexpectedly Wednesday July 10, 2013, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville. She was 93. Laughter and smiles bloomed from the seeds of love and kindness planted in others every day of her life. She brought enjoyment to everyone who knew her. She was a kind and gentle spirit. She was an angel in life and now for eternity.
Mrs. Hartzog was born January 22, 1920 and reared in Louisville, Alabama, daughter of the late J.E. Horne and Jennie McInnis Horne. She was a graduate of Louisville High School and Massey Draughon Business College in Montgomery. She retired from Eufaula Bank & Trust Company where she served as bookkeeper and teller. She enjoyed her family and friends, needlework, cooking and reading. She was a member of Adams Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband S.T. Hartzog, Jr., her parents, two sisters Marion Beasley and her twin sister, Flora Ella Crumpton, three step brothers, Bennett Horne, S.H. Horne, and H.D. Horne.
A legacy of love is found in her surviving relatives which include her two daughters, Mary Ann Hartzog Britt and husband, Richard Britt, Clayton; and Maxine Hartzog Hamm and husband, Reverend Jerome Hamm, Tiger, GA; six grandchildren, Melissa Britt Boutwell (Jeff), Richard Britt Jr. (Laura), Mary Elisabeth Britt Price (P.D.), Felicia Hamm Partain (Bruce), Hanns Hamm (Margaret), Liana Hamm Smith (David); eleven great-grandchildren, Britt Boutwell, Taylor Boutwell, Natalie Boutwell, Mary Claire Boutwell, Carmen Britt, Adriana Britt, Adria Partain, Deidra Partain, Donovan Partain, Kelsey Smith, and Isaac Smith; two great-great grandchildren, Kele Smallwood and Caiden Partain and a number of special nieces and nephews. She was lovingly nicknamed “Birdie”, “Mama Wily”, and “Aunt Baby” by her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 13, 2013, in the Adams Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Winston Jay officiating. Holman Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Adams Chapel Methodist Cemetery Fund, c/o Faye Glover, 620 Bud Gary Road, Clayton, Alabama 36016.
