Mary Lou Woodham of Hartford, devoted mother, grandmother, and friend went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 22, 2014. She was 83.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Hartford Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Spivey and Rev. Chris Kroll officiating. The family will have a private graveside service at Pondtown Community Cemetery under the direction of Jimmy Bottoms of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Southern Care Hospice, 2576 Montgomery Highway, Suite 2, Dothan, AL 36303.
Ms. Woodham was born in Hartford on September 11, 1930. She was a 1948 graduate of Geneva County High School. Mary worked for many years at General Cigar Co. in Dothan, retiring in 1993. She worked in the Adult Care Center in Slocomb for several years and served 16 years as a volunteer Sunday school teacher for the Hartford Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Will F. and Margaret J. Miller; one brother, Ray; three sisters, Velma Carter, Lucille Drake, and Sara Guereo.
Survivors include her son, William Michael (Brenda) Smith; her daughter, Janice Marie Kelly; granddaughter, Anna Smith; grandsons, Jarrod (Katie) Murphy, and Heath (Anna) Murphy; great-grandson, Pacey Murphy; great-granddaughters, Keegan and Utah Murphy; niece, Sandra Drake; nephews, Jerry, Jimmy, and John Carter; several other nieces and nephews; dear lifelong friends, Ruth Brownlee and Barbara Sasser; hospice caretakers and special friends, Shannon and Vinetta.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mary’s Sunday school class members. Pallbearers will be Jarrod Murphy, Heath Murphy, John Carter, James Hall, Roger Kelly, Don Farris, Harold Hicks, and Gary Miller.
