Mary Mercer Dickerson
Mary Mercer Dickerson, of Covington, GA and formerly of Ashford, AL, died in Georgia on Thursday, February 16, 2012. She was 81.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel in Dothan, AL with Reverend Robert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Ashford City Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. on Sunday prior to service time.
Mrs. Dickerson was born November 3, 1930 in in Gordon, AL to John and Mozelle Mullis Mercer. She was a 1949 graduate of Ashford High School and later attended business college. On April 23, 1955 she married Gerald Dickerson. She was the office manager of Dickerson Automotive for 20 years.
She loved painting, home interior and reading. She also loved yardwork, birds, windchimes and fishing. Mrs. Dickerson was a loving wife and mother. She was a member of Springfield Free Will Baptist Church in Ashford and the Order of Eastern Star Wiregrass #519.
Mrs. Dickerson is predeceased by her parents and a twin sister, Merle.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Gerald F. Dickerson of Ashford, AL; a brother and sister-in-law, John L. and Linda Mercer of AL; three children, Randy and Kim Dickerson, Cindy Kirby and Tami and Charles Clewis, all of Covington, GA; three grandchildren, Brandi M. Palmer, Mandajo Deerman and Michael Kirby, all of Stockbridge, GA; four great-grandchildren, Kristin Palmer, Elizabeth Palmer, Autumn Gilstrap and DJ Palmer, all of Stockbridge, GA; a sister-in-law, Pauline Dickerson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
