Marylean Turner

A celebration of Marylean’s life will be held, Friday, November 3, 2023, at 2pm in the Sunset Chapel. Her final resting place will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Marylean Turner, a faith-filled, adventurous, and loving woman, was called home by her Lord and Savior on October 27, 2023. She was born in the heart of Clayton, Alabama on April 23, 1948. Marylean's life was as vibrant and rich as the Alabama soil she so loved, her spirit as free and boundless as the country winds.

Marylean was the beloved daughter of the late Otis and Versey Walker Gamble, and the cherished sister of the late George Gamble, Otis Gamble Jr,. She leaves behind her other siblings, Earnest Gamble, Carl Gamble, James Gamble, and Versie (William) Petty. She was a beacon of love and strength to her family, including her daughter, Sharon Turner, and her grandchildren, Shaquitta (Markeith Byrd Sr.) Turner, and great-grandchildren, Markeith Byrd Jr., Makai Byrd, Eli Byrd, and Elijah Byrd. Marylean's legacy will continue to live on through her great-grandchildren, her siblings, and the many loving nieces and nephews who were blessed to call her Aunt Marylean.

Marylean's work history was as varied and colorful as her life. She was a dedicated employee at Van Heusen and later, she found her true calling as a seamstress in Clayton, Alabama. Her nimble fingers and keen eye for detail allowed her to craft pieces of clothing that were not just functional, but works of art. Her work was a testament to her diligence, creativity, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Marylean was a woman who embraced the simple joys of life. She loved the Alabama Country life, cherishing every moment spent in the great outdoors. Fishing was a particular joy of hers, a pastime that allowed her to connect with nature and find peace in its tranquility. Her love for her Jeep was well known, a symbol of her adventurous spirit and her desire to explore the world around her. Gardening was another passion of hers, a testament to her patience and nurturing spirit. Each plant she tended to was a testament to her love and care, a reflection of the love she had for all of God's creations.

Above all, Marylean was a woman of God. Her love for the Lord was as deep and vast as the ocean, her faith unwavering and steadfast. Psalm 23 held a special place in her heart, a source of comfort and strength in times of adversity. As the esteemed Charles Spurgeon once said, "By perseverance, the snail reached the ark." Marylean's journey of faith was one marked by perseverance, her unwavering trust in God a beacon of hope for those around her.

Marylean Turner was a woman who lived her life with grace, faith, and an unyielding love for her family and God. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved her, her spirit alive in the Alabama winds and in the blossoms of the gardens she so loved. As we remember Marylean, let us carry her love for life, her adventurous spirit, and her unwavering faith in our hearts. May we strive to live as she did, with love, faith, and a spirit of adventure.

In the words of the Psalm that she held dear, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever." (Psalm 23:6). Marylean Turner, a true servant of the Lord, now dwells in His house forever, her soul at peace and her spirit free.
