Matthew John Zapor, a resident of Dothan, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 6, 2020. He was 29 years old.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, January 11, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2-3 pm. Matthew was born on November 27, 1990 in New Britain, Connecticut. He graduated from Timber Creek High School in Orlando, Florida. After high school, he attended Valencia College and then decided to join the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, Matthew would serve in two tours aboard the USS Harry S. Truman. He would finish his Naval career as an E5 Aviation Ordinance Specialist. Matthew would later attend Troy University of Dothan and graduate Cum Laude with his BA in Computer Science. Matthew loved to spend time driving his red GTR, playing video games with his friends, and cooking meals for his families. He could always brighten everyone’s day with his jokes and pranks. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
Matthew is survived by his loving parents, John and Julie Zapor; his sister, Stephanie Garcia and her husband Torrey; his nieces and nephew, Sophie, Crew, and Isabella Garcia; his paternal grandmother, Barbara Zapor; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gorneault; and his special K-9 companion, Reagan.
