Matthew Phillip Johnson of Midland City, Alabama passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at a local hospital. He was 24.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Gunter and Rev. Roy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Matthew was born April 2, 1993 in Houston County and moved to Midland City at the age of 3. He was a 2012 graduate of Dale County High School and has been employed with Covenant Steel for the past year. Matthew was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the river.

Survivors include his son, Carter Mason Langford; parents, Bruce and Lori Johnson; several cousins including, Jessie Bailey, Justin Johnson, Jarrod Johnson, Brad Carroll, Dustin Carroll, Amanda Rigsby Haskin, Amy Rigsby, and Brian Rigsby; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Carroll, Teddy Folds, Kyle Greer, Nick Hopper, Stephen Hopper, and Eddie "Bubba" Chandler. Honorary pallbearer will be Brian Rigsby. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Westgate Church of Christ for Transform Central, 619 Westgate Pkwy, Dothan, AL 36303.
