Mattie Jean Stokes Golden passed away in Dothan, Alabama on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at her home. She was 80.
Graveside services for Mrs. Golden will be held Monday, August 12, 2013 at Gardens of Memory, Dothan, Alabama at 10 AM. Brother Billy Rich officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wiregrass Humane Society, 225 Jerry Drive, Dothan, Alabama, 36301.
The family will receive visitors at the graveside service.
Mattie Jean was born to Pilly and Alice Davis Stokes on September 23, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kinnon (Bill) Golden Jr; Sister Lila Myrl Stokes, brothers: Rudolph Stokes, Curtis Stokes and Max Stokes. Sister-in-laws Margaret Stokes, Charlotte Stokes, and Genolayne Stokes.
Mattie Jean graduated from Wicksburg High School and retired from General Telephone Co in Dothan, Alabama. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Jeannie or Aunti J as she was lovingly called was a wonderful daughter, wife, sister and aunt to her family. Survivors include Brother, Doy Jon Stokes, Dothan, Sister-in-laws Sarah Stokes McCord of Dothan and Rita Golden Valparaiso, Florida, and sister in love, Quinn McAlister. Nieces and nephews, David Stokes and Ken (Lillian) Stokes of California, Sandra (Terry) Stokes Walden, Headland, Steve (Kathy)Stokes of Michigan, Terry Stokes, Dothan, Roger (Jenny) Stokes of Auburn, Alice Ann Stokes White, California, Ronnie (Joanne)Stokes of Tuscaloosa, Rickey (Marsha) Stokes of Dothan, Estelaine (Richard D.) Stokes O’Donnell of Port St. Joe, FL and Bettye Jean Stokes Givens, California, twenty-one great nieces and nephews.
