ASHFORD. . .Mattie Mae Stephens Oliver, a former resident of Ashford, died Monday afternoon, July 16, 2018, in the Signature Healthcare of North Florida in Graceville. She was 94.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Don Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Springs Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Pansey. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Headland.
Ms. Oliver was born in Houston County and reared in Grimes, daughter of the late Pascal Stephens and Ola Drinkwater Stephens. She lived in the Bluff Springs community, near Ashford, most of her adult lifetime. Ms. Oliver was of the Baptist faith. She was retired from the Southeast Alabama Medical Center as a Unit Secretary. Ms. Oliver was preceded in death by her son, Alton Byrd Oliver.
Surviving relatives include a daughter-in-law, Michell Oliver, Cowarts; two sisters, Catherine Hall, Dothan; and Martha Jean Cook (J.D.), Bainbridge, GA; three grandchildren, Michael Oliver (Jodi), Birmingham; Sonia Hughes (Michael), Cowarts; and Amy Oliver, Dothan; five great-grandchildren, Hayden, Blaine, Balin, Bryson and Drake; and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Oliver, Balin Hughes, Bryson Hughes, Blaine Howell and Drake Oliver.
