MAURICE GLEN PHILLIPS


 


ABBEVILLE. . .  M. Glen Phillips, a resident of the Screamer community of Henry County, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012, in the Crowne Health Care in Eufaula.


  


            Funeral services to celebrate Glen’s life will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 24, 2012 in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Randy Stokes and Reverend Mike Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty United Methodist Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday in the mortuary chapel. 





            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to God’s Way Baptist Church c/o Sharon Doss, 1013 Five Mile Road, Eufaula, AL  36027, or to Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Fred Tye, 6541 State Highway 95 North, Abbeville, AL  36310.


 


             Glen was born July 20, 1929 in Buhl, Idaho, son of the late Luther Manley Phillips and Beatrice M. Bennett Phillips. He attended school in Rupert, Idaho and graduated from Idaho State University in 1956 with a degree in Geology. He worked as a Geologist for Sunshine Mining Company, the largest silver mining company in the United States. He was also certified and worked as a Health Physics Technician in nuclear power plants throughout the United States and Brazil.


  


            Glen served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Wallace Elks Lodge in Wallace, Idaho.  Glen was an active member of God’s Way Baptist Church and also the Young at Heart Seniors of Shorterville. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Taylor, and brothers, Marion (Bill) Phillips and Gaylord Phillips.


  


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Brenda Tye Phillips, Screamer; a son, William Glen (Bill) Phillips and wife Rose, Clarkston, WA; a loving and devoted stepdaughter, Michele Morris and husband Danny, Screamer community; a grandson, Adam Phillips, Clarkston, WA; a granddaughter, Maranda Morris, Screamer community; a sister, Uthal Montgomery, Burley, Idaho; a sisters-in-law, Olive Phillips, Heyburn, Idaho; Lois Phillips, St. George, Utah; Margaret Tye Yance and husband Terry, Haleburg; brother-in-law, Ralph Tye and wife Bobbie, Headland, several nieces and nephews.


  


            Active pallbearers will be Jim Yance, Dan Landsverk, Larry Hammond, Johnny Carter, Gerald Osteen and Donnie Paul.  Honorary pallbearers will be Don Copeland, Walter Jones, William F. Covington and Fred Tye.
