Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise with Reverend Richard West and her son, James Osborn officiating.  Burial will follow at Daleville Memorial Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continue until time of service.  Facial masks and social distancing are required to attend these events.

Mavis was born on December 25, 1923 in Bonifay, Florida to the late James and Jessie Quattlebaum.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest James Osborn; five sisters; four brothers; and daughter-in-law, Janice Osborn.

Mavis graduated from Holmes County High School in Bonifay, FL in 1941.  She worked in Civil Service in Washington D.C. as a clerk/typist from 1943 until 1945 where she then joined the Woman’s Army Corp and served as a medical technician for a year.  In 1947 she returned to the Civil Service until 1952 when she married her husband, Ernest James Osborn, with whom she was only separated from during his military deployments and his death in 2003.  Upon marriage she resigned from her job to begin her most treasured role as wife and mother.  In 1966 she returned to Civil Service at Fort Rucker, AL working for Military Clothing and Sales until 1981.

Mavis attended First Assembly of God until she became homebound. She was a disciple of Jesus Christ who she loved and followed. She demonstrated His love and compassion to everyone who had contact with her. She is now enjoying eternal fellowship with Him, with her husband, her parents, her brothers and sisters, and all her friends who are there with her. She loved the Atlanta Braves and her TV was always tuned to their games no matter what else was on.  She enjoyed watching Alabama football and was an avid gardener and angler.

She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen Mitchell (Robert Alan Mitchell) of Atlanta, GA, Thomas Ernest Osborn of Enterprise, AL, James Osborn of Tulsa, OK, Carol Mae Osborn of Ohio and Annette Osborn of Michigan; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gammill, the Medical Director of Kindred Hospice and to Vickie and Mary for their excellent care.  The family would also like to extend their love and thanks to Sarah Hooks, our neighbor, who prayed, ministered and helped with her care.
