Mavis Marsh Skipper, a resident of Dothan passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at her residence. She was 94.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday May 5, 2018 at the Dothan City Cemetery on West Main Street with Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home directing. Officiating the service will be Elder Charles Roling and Rev. Larry Skipper. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the cemetery.
Mrs. Skipper was born May 12, 1923, in Houston County where she lived her early life. She went to Dothan High School and worked at Newberry’s Department Store, where she met her late husband, Huey Clifton Skipper. They were married for 63 yrs. In March 1956 they moved to Pensacola, FL and resided there until January 2006 and then transplanted back to Dothan, AL. Mavis enjoyed gardening and cooking many large wonderful meals. She attended Union Primitive Baptists Church in Midland City.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jesse Alonza Marsh and Lessie Green Marsh, husband Huey Clifton Skipper, daughter, Marsha Efstathiou, brothers Paul Ray Marsh and Max Marsh, and sisters Clyde Roling, Sarah Alexander, Grace Yance, and Gladys Marsh. Survivors include two daughters, Selena Halstead and husband, Dennis, Marleen Rhodes and husband, Larry; a son, Al Skipper and wife, Sheral; ten grandchildren, Mandy Jones, Nicholas Efstathiou, Tabitha Smith, Christopher Efstathiou, Mark Rogers, Rachel Melton, Aaron Halstead, Matthew, Sarah and Tim Efstathiou; eight great-grandchildren, Anna and Addison Jones, Aydin and Joshua Quillet, Alayna and Ace Efstathiou, Lela, Noah, and Adeline Melton; several nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
