Max E. Spivey, a resident of Kinsey, died early Monday morning, June 1, 2015, at his home. He was 85.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Winston Jay and Reverend Wayne Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsey United Methodist Church, c/o Jean Thomas, 997 Broad Street, Kinsey, AL 36303.


            Mr. Spivey was born and reared in Malvern, Alabama. He served his country in the U. S. Navy from 1947 until 1950. Mr. Spivey was an active member of the Kinsey United Methodist Church where he served in most offices and capacities within the church. He was a former member of the West End Lions Club and Headland Lions Club. Mr. Spivey retired, due to disability, from K-Mart North in Dothan as Assistant Manager. In earlier years, he was employed by Lewis Industries in Birmingham. Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by his father, Levi Preston Spivey, his mother, Willa Mae Rice Spivey, and his step-mother, who helped to rear him, Estelle Shiver Spivey, and a brother, Earl Spivey.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Skipper Spivey, Kinsey; two daughters, Becky Vallejo (Rene’), Birmingham; and Renee Bottomlee, Kinsey; a son, Ronnie Spivey (Lynn), Kinsey; a sister, Louise Branton (Chalmus), Malvern; two brothers, Thomas J. Spivey, Dothan; and Charles Spivey (Sheila), Rehobeth; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Spivey, Graceville; three grandchildren, Courtney Spivey, Stacey Harris, and Kevin Rockett; two great-grandchildren, Bradley Harris and Colby Harris; a brother-in-law, Haywood Skipper (Luverne), Kinsey, and a sister-in-law, Annette Cherry (Charles), Cowarts; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Kevin Rockett, Bradley Harris, Colby Harris, Rene’ Vallejo, George Furqueron, and Wallace Sanders.
