CHIPLEY, FLORIDA. . .Max Leon Laseter, a resident of Chipley, Florida, died early Thursday afternoon, April 20, 2017, in the Washington Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Chipley. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 22, 2017, in the First Baptist Church of Chipley with Reverend Michael Orr officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 P.M. Saturday in Gardens of Memory, between Headland & Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Chipley “Building Fund”, P.O. Box 643, Chipley, FL 32428.
Mr. Laseter was born in Dothan and was reared in Webb, Alabama, son of the late Welton Laseter and Verna Mae Renfroe Laseter. He was a 1948 graduate of Houston County High School in Columbia and attended Auburn University. Mr. Laseter was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Chipley where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher of the Older Adult Men. He was retired from the Florida Department of Transportation as a Right of Way Administrator after twenty years employment. An Army veteran of the Korean War era, Mr. Laseter retired from the Army National Guard, Dothan unit, and had previously served in the National Guard in the Headland unit. He lived in Webb before moving to Chipley in 1976. Mr. Laseter was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Laseter Nowell.
Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-five years, Sue Capps Laseter; a daughter, Susan L. Phillips (Larry), Webb, AL; and a son, Jeffrey Laseter (Susan), Signal Mountain, TN; seven grandchildren, Suzette Aman (Mark), Stephanie Clemente, Summer Kramer (Chris), Bryan Laseter (Melissa), Becki Laseter, Drew Laseter (Emily) and Mark Laseter; seven great-grandchildren, Raffaele Clemente, Mary Suzan Aman, Anna Mark Aman, Bryleigh Buchanan, Owen Laseter, Jude Laseter and Callie Laseter; and a special nephew, George Anthony Nowell.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Bill Mitchell, Mark Aman, Joe May, Ray Cobb, Clay Saunders, and Grant Miles. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Sandy Sanders Sunday School Class.
