HALEBURG. . .Maxine Harris Carter, a resident of Haleburg, died Saturday morning, March 14, 2020, at her home. She was 84.


     Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 17, 2020, in the Camp Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Brewer, Reverend Kenneth Goss and Dr. Richard E. Worsham officiating. Burial will follow in the Haleburg Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary.


     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Camp Springs Youth Fund13205 County Road 53, Columbia, AL 36319 or to the Walk To Emmaus Pilgrim Fund, P.O. Box 667, Ozark, AL 36361.


     Mrs. Carter was born and reared in Haleburg, daughter of  the late Arthur Lee Harris and Mary Evelyn Dukes Harris. She formerly lived in various locations while her husband served in the U. S. Air Force. Mrs. Carter was the first Director of the Haleburg Senior Center and was formerly employed as a Medical Transcriptionist. She was an active member of the Camp Springs Baptist Church where she was very involved with the Women on Mission. In earlier years, Mrs. Carter served as the treasurer of the Haleburg Baptist Church. She was active in the Bethlehem Walk to Emmaus. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Carter, a sister, Phyllis Micki Wallace, a brother, Bennie Harris, and a nephew, Ben Harris.


     Surviving relatives include a daughter, Renee Carter Hall (Joe), Haleburg; two sons, Ricky Carter (Barbara), Haleburg; and Arthur Carter (Kelly), Ashford; three sisters, Pat Crenshaw, Dothan; JoAnn Elliott, Abbeville; and Delaine Worsham (Richard), Niceville, FL; seven grandchildren, Joey Hall, Jeffrey Hall, Michael Carter, James Carter, Clay Carter, Mollie Carter and Keewhan Sung; sisters-in-law, Beverly Brown Harris, Marilyn Carter Money and Ann Carter Williams; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Carter; numerous nieces and nephews and her loving canine companion, Sissy.


     Serving as active pallbearers will be Joey Hall, Jeffrey Hall, Michael Carter, James Carter, Clay Carter, Austin Hernandez and Chase Jackson.
