NEWVLLE. . .Melvin Clayton Price, a resident of Newville, died early Saturday evening, December 10, 2022, in a Dothan hospital. He was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, December 14, 2022, in the Newville Baptist Church with Pastor Nathan Poe, Reverend Norman C. Simmons and Minister Bob Blalock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Newville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 13, Newville, AL 36353 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or to a favorite charity.
Mr. Price was born and reared in Newville, son of the late Edison Bell Price and Ester Lee Wells Price. He was a 1958 graduate of Newville High School and served his country in the U. S. Navy from 1958 until 1962 and received an honorable discharge. Mr. Price attended Wallace Community College and Troy University. He was retired as the owner and operator of EBCO Battery Company of Dothan. In earlier years, Mr. Price was a salesman in insurance and furniture. He and his wife also owned and operated M & E Kiko Goat Farm in Newville. Mr. Price and his wife enjoyed travelling to many countries. Mr. Price was an active member of the Newville Baptist Church where he formerly served as Sunday School Director and participated in many other church activities. He was also a member of the Brown’s Crossroads Masonic Lodge No. 529. Mr. Price was preceded in death by two sons, Jonathan Price and Melvin Keith Price, a step-son, Chris Geier, and two brothers, infant Thomas Price and Arthur Price.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Dr. Elsa Cannon Geier Price, a son, Faron Price, Newville; step-sons, James Geier (Denise), Brooks, GA; and Allen Geier (Rebecca), Dothan; two sisters, Winnie Jean Martin (William), Tennessee; and Teresa Ann Farmer, Ft. Walton Beach, FL; a brother, Terry E. Price, Newville; a sister-in-law, Melba Price, Newville; grandchildren, Johnathon Price (Kirsti), Timothy Price, Daniel Price (Frances), Anna Frances Bell (Jordan), James Wendell “Trey” Geier, III, Nathan Geier, Jamison Geier (Mallory), and Sarah Bell (Clayton); great-grandchildren, Emily, Aubrey, Jack, Harli, Almeda, Morrigan, Chloe, Hazel, Riley, Rowan, Collin, Jasmine; mother-in-law, Dr. Frances O. Cannon, a sister-in-law, Sandra Moseley, a brother-in-law, (Lt. Colonel, U. S. Army, Retired), Thomas A. Cannon, Jr. and his wife, Delane; several nieces and nephews.
