Michael Anthony Bing, 62, of Headland went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday June 14, 2024, following a brief illness.

A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 3 P.M. at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Michael was born on August 18, 1961, in Oakland, California.  After graduating high school, Michael enlisted in the US Army, in which he proudly served for over 20 years.  Michael was a veteran of Desert Storm and served in support of our troops as a Department of Defense Contractor for 13 years in Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan throughout Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He also served as a Dothan City Police Officer for 8 years.  Michael was forced into medical retirement in 2021, after which he spent his time with his family and playing with his Doodles, Bindi and Fiona.

Michael was an amazing husband and devoted father. Opinionated, sassy, grumpy (when sick), and goofy are just a few of the adjectives used to describe him. He gave selflessly to ensure that his family was provided for.  Always quick to help others, he literally would give the shirt off his back to those in need.  Michael never met a stranger and was known for his elaborate, often embellished, storytelling. The Disney World vacations (which he begrudgingly learned to love, ok, tolerate), the road trip to California and back, or relaxing at the beach are just a few of the memories that we hold dear. The loss of Michael has left a gaping hole.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Lillia and William Bing, and his brother James Bing, as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Linda and Allen Hatcher of Dothan.

Michael is survived by his wife of 25 years, Amy Hatcher Bing, their children; Aren, Ethan, and Noah, all of Headland.  His daughter, Vada Bing, and grandchildren Dallas and Vegas Lockett, all of Dothan.  His brothers, William Bing, Isaiah Bing, and his sister Bertha Bing, all of California. His sister-in-law, Amanda Hatcher and her son Luke, who affectionately knew Michael as Papi, of Headland.  Close family friends Ashlyn and Blake Poitevint of Dale County.

Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made in Michael’s honor to the Savoy Jones Benefit Foundation.
