Michael Douglas Godwin, 49, a resident of Newton, AL passed away Monday September 28, 2015 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Thursday, October 1, 2015 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Sasser officiating. Burial will follow in Godwin Bratt Cemetery in Century, Florida with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Dale County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse.
Michael was born August 23, 1966 in Atmore, AL and lived there the early years of his life. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the US Airforce and served four years. Michael moved to Ozark in 1990 and attended the Alabama Aviation and Technical College where he received an Associates of Aviation Maintenance Degree. He was the owner of Mike's Gun Shop for the past 8 years in Pinckard, AL and he also owned South Alabama Tool and Equipment Company. He participated in CMSA (Cowboy Mounted Shooting) and was a founding member of the Dale County Sheriff's Mounted Posse. His horse's names were Ziggy and Tucker.
Survivors include his wife Angela Godwin whom he married October 2, 2006; his mother, Geraldine Gilman Godwin; two stepchildren, Megan and Dustin Steed; two stepsisters, Marsha (Brandon) Phillip and Julie McDonald; multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He would like everyone to remember and celebrate his life in casual attire.
