ABBEVILLE. . .Michael Joseph “Mike” Turkington, a resident of Abbeville, died Wednesday morning, March 22, 2023, in a Dothan hospital. He was 69.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3pm, April 8, 2023, at Lakeside Christian Fellowship with Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating. The family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeside Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 218, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to a favorite charity.
Mr. Turkington was born in Tampa, Florida and was raised in Temple Terrace, Florida. He lived in Tallahassee and Atlanta before moving to Lake Eufaula in Henry County, Alabama in 2019. Mr. Turkington was a member of Lakeside Christian Fellowship. He retired from Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta, Georgia as an Instructor in Industrial Electrical Technology. In earlier years, Mr. Turkington retired from the Florida State Board of Administration as a Senior Treasury Operations Specialist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert E. Turkington and Carolyn Johnson Turkington.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Mary Maltby “Memi” Turkington; his son, Sean Turkington, his wife Tina, and their three children, Bruce, Brooke, and Brianne, Havana, FL; his daughter, Cheska Lynn Turkington; and his step-son Clifford Carroll, Tallahassee, FL.
Mike was an avid pen collector and a voracious reader with an insatiable appetite for learning. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, and grandfather with a great sense of humor. Mike was kind hearted and always had a smile and an optimistic attitude. Ask him how he was and he would always say, “I’m Great!” He will be sorely missed, but we rejoice that he is with Jesus now!
