Mike Vida, Jr. of Enterprise, Alabama passed away at his residence on Monday, October 9, 2017. He was 76.
Services will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11 am in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 pm on Thursday, October 12.
Mr. Vida was born in South Bend, Indiana on July 25, 1941 and lived the early years of his life in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He joined the US Army in 1960 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After 23 years of military service, he retired in 1983. Then, he attended Troy University and received a degree in Psychology and Counseling in 1985. Mr. Vida was employed with the Southeast Alabama Youth Services as a juvenile counselor for 25 years until his retirement in 2007. He enjoyed woodworking, watching football, spending time with his grandchildren and was an avid reader. Mr. Vida was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike Vida, Sr. and Mildred and Vernon Hyde; a sister, Judy Hatley; a brother, Jerry Hyde; and his son, Michael (Mickey) Vida.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Nell Vida; son, Chris (Telisa) Vida; daughter, Kelly (Glen) Sexton; daughter-in-law, Kathy Vida; grandchildren, Ben, Joey, Meghan, Aaron, Michael, Vicki, Jessica, Garrett, Savannah, Jack and Kari; and great-grandchildren, Zack, Zane, Zoe, Brodie, Aidian, Brysen and Ellie Kate.
