DOTHAN. . .Mildred Smith Dell, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday afternoon, August 24, 2017, in the Ozark Health & Rehabilitation. She was 102.


            Graveside services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 27, 2017, in the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, near Midland City, with Reverend Alan Meyer and Clay Dell officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:30 P.M. at the mortuary in Headland.


            Memorial contributions may be made to the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Dinah Woodham, 992 County Road 531, Midland City, AL 36350.


            Mrs. Dell was born and reared in Dale County, between Ozark and Skipperville, daughter of the late Robert David “Bud” Smith and Ludie Shirah Smith. She was a 1936 graduate of the Dale County High School in Ozark. Mrs. Dell lived on Harrison Road in Dothan since 1946 and was a member of the Sylvan Grove United Methodist Church. For most of her adult lifetime, she was engaged in farming with her husband. Mrs. Dell was preceded in death by her husband, James Lawton Dell, Sr., a son, James Lawton “Jimmy” Dell, Jr., three sisters, Matha S. Robinson, Eva Mae Smith and Myrtice S. Patrick, and two brothers, Robert Smith and J. I. Smith.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Rosemary Dunagan (Larry), Dothan; and Kathy Curtis (Jack), Roswell, GA; two sons, Jerry Dell (Merrily), Chancellor, AL; and Glenn Dell, Midland City; six grandchildren, Anne-Kathryn Baugh (Stephen), Clay Dell (Jenny), Reid Dell, Kerri Cox (Phillip), Erin Dunagan and Haze Kloet (Paul); three great-grandchildren, John Luke Cox, Taylor Cox and Lilly Dell.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Clay Dell, Reid Dell, Jack Curtis, Phillip Cox, David Patrick, Dwight Patrick and Jim Miller.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Ozark Health & Rehabilitation and Kindred Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Dell during her illness.
