DOTHAN…Milton LaDon Shipes, a resident of Dothan, died Tuesday afternoon, January 12, 2021, in a Dothan hospital. He was 87.
Private graveside services will be held Thursday, January 14, 2021, in Gardens of Memory, between Dothan and Headland, with Reverend Billy J. Rich officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the mortuary chapel. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memphis Baptist Church, c/o Vicki Turner, 4595 Eddins Road, Dothan, AL 36301.
Mr. Shipes was born and reared in Barbour County, son of the late Coy Levi Shipes and Evie Wilkerson Shipes. He lived in the Memphis Church community most of his life. Mr. Shipes was engaged in farming most of his adult life and was employed by McKay Farms until his retirement. He was a member of Memphis Baptist Church. Mr. Shipes was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Jo Campbell Shipes, two brothers, Buck Shipes and J.V. Shipes, and six sisters, Frances Kennedy, Maezell Tew, Ellen Harden, Annie Belle Daughtry, Mary Ann Worley and Imogene Stinson.
Surviving relatives include his daughter, Judy Shipes, Dothan; his son, Donald Shipes (Faye), Headland; two grandchildren, Preston Shipes (Misty) and John Shipes (Sarah); two great-grandchildren, Maddie Shipes and Hayden McWaters; two sisters, Betty Jean Hagler (Gene), Blue Springs; and Lela Golden, Newville; a brother-in-law, Charles Harden, Cowarts; several nieces and nephews.
