Minnie Smith Finch of Samson, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015. She was 100 years old. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, Samson with the Rev. Sam Totten officiating. Burial will follow in Travelers Rest Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 100 W. Main St., Samson, AL 36477 or the Travelers Rest Cemetery Fund, c/o Johnny Faulk, 611 W. Pullum St., Samson, AL 36477.
Ms. Minnie was born in Coosa County, Ala. on September 1, 1914 to the late Charles Newton Eubanks and Harma Belle Smith. She was a longtime and active member of the First Baptist Church of Samson, an active member of the Samson Garden Club and was an active member of the Samson Study Club. She was a school teacher, worked at the Dept. of Pensions and Security, served as Acting Post Master, ran two separate businesses and was also the Geneva County Tax Assessor until she retired in 1985. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Clyde Smith and W.R. “Willie” Finch; three sons, Cyrus N. Smith, Sr., Michael A. Finch and Dennis R. Finch; son-in-law, George “Bubba” Sims; grandson, Cyrus N. Smith, Jr.; granddaughter, Marijo Colleen Smith-Gahimer; and great grandson, Stuart L. Sims.
She is survived by her daughters, Annie Clyde Sims of Samson and Sheila Spears (Roy “Moose”) of Dothan; son, Stanley M. Smith (Karla) of Atlanta; two daughters-in-law, Mary Gail Smith of Jupiter, Fla. and Diana Finch of Samson; and numerous, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
