Miriam Holland Ryland of Hartford, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2023. She was 95.


Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 23 at Hartford Methodist Church in Hartford, Alabama with Reverend Dric Williford officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary with funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hartford Fire Department or Hartford Rescue Squad, 503 South 3rd Avenue, Hartford, AL 36344.


Mrs. Ryland was born to the late C.B. and Annie Ingram Holland on November 28, 1927 in Wicksburg, Alabama. She graduated from Wicksburg High School in 1946 and graduated from Troy University in 1952 eventually earning two bachelor degrees in elementary education and business education. She taught business education for 33 years at Geneva County High School in Hartford, Alabama retiring in 1986. Besides being a dedicated teacher, she enjoyed traveling, reading, and working in her flower garden. She most especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Hartford Methodist Church which she joined in 1950 along with her husband John D. Ryland. They were married 64 years until his death in 2012.


Besides her husband and parents she is predeceased by her beloved older sister Marjorie Holland Driskell of Wicksburg, Alabama. Survivors include one daughter, Daria Ryland Bogardus of Hartford, Alabama; two grandsons Kyle Bogardus and Scott Bogardus and his wife Melissa and their children Jack, Jolie, and Lilly Bogardus all of Birmingham, Alabama; many nieces and nephews also survive -all of whom she loved very much.


Active pallbearers will be Wes Tindell, Phillip DuRant, Mark Hatcher, Dan Ryland, Alan Langford, Tracey Driskell.


The family would like to thank First Light Home Care and Southern Care Hospice for their care and devotion to Mrs. Ryland during her time of need.
