Mary Garrett, A resident of Ozark, Alabama died Friday, April 28,2023 at Oakview Manor in Ozark. She was 81.
Per her wishes no services will be held at this time. Donations can be made in her honor to Ozark- Dale County Public Library or the Wiregrass United Way Food Bank.
Born in Moulton, Alabama on November 26,1941, Miss Garrett grew up in Brewton and Atmore, Alabama. After earning a B.S. degree at Troy State College (Troy University) in 1963, She taught math for three years at Bellingrath Junior High School in Montgomery, Alabama. Following her work in Montgomery, she went to the University of Alabama where she earned a M.A. degree and then returned to Atmore where she taught for one year at Escambia County Middle School. She spent the rest of her thirty-two-year career in the Ozark City School System. After retiring in 1999, Miss Garrett was active in the Dale County Education Retirees Association (DCERA), Friends of Ozark, and volunteered with numerous other groups.
Miss Garrett was preceded in death by her parents, James Anderson Garrett and Frances D. Garrett.
She is survived by a sister, Rebecca G. Patterson; two nephews, Robert D. Patterson and John K. Patterson; along with a great nephew and a great niece, Adam Patterson and Emily Patterson.
