Miss Sheryl Christmas, age 71, a lifelong resident of Cottonwood, died early Sunday April 30, 2017 at her residence following a brief illness.


Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday May 2, 2017 at the Cottonwood First Baptist Church with Brother Jimmy Bolin officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cottonwood City Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.


The family will be receiving friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday prior to services at the church.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Cottonwood First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 427, Cottonwood, AL. 36320 or to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Ave., Dothan, AL. 36303.


Sheryl was born on April 16, 1946 at Moody Hospital in Dothan the daughter of Joseph E. Christmas, Jr. and Miriam Hicks Christmas.  She owned Sheryl Christmas Photography in Cottonwood for 20 years and formerly worked at L & J Studio in Dothan for 32 years.  Sheryl  was employed for 10 years with the Dothan Leisure Services in their concession stands and she was an active and faithful member of Cottonwood First Baptist Church.  She was a 1964 graduate of Cottonwood High School.


Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents, paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Christmas, Sr., maternal grandparents, Dr. & Mrs. D.M. Hicks; sister, Becky Steele and brother-in-law, Alvin Steele.


Survivors include: sister, Patricia Carter, Cottonwood; 3 nephews, Blake Hall (Jenny), Florence; Tyson Carter, Dothan; Clay Carter (Mamie), Cottonwood; great-nephews, Owen Carter, Talmadge Hall; great-nieces, Emma Carter and Claire Carter.


The family would like to say Thank You to Kindred Hospice Staff, Mary Monk, special friends & family who provided wonderful care for Sheryl.


Active pallbearers will be: Blake Hall, Tyson Carter, Clay Carter, Owen Carter, Paul Thomley, James Killingsworth, Billy Max Hall and Keith Legrand.


Honorary pallbearers will be: Mickey Daughtry and Cottonwood High School Class of 1964.
