Miss Sylvia Taylor of Dothan, AL passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Wesley Place. She was 82 years old.
Funeral services will be held at Enterprise Baptist Church, Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 3:30 PM with Reverend David Baker and Tim Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at the Enterprise Baptist Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Kindred Hospice.
Sylvia was born on October 9, 1939 to Mr. R. J. and Mrs. Bobbie Jewel Taylor in Ashford, Alabama. She was a graduate of Ashford High School. Her first job was working at Wex-Tex as a seamstress. She began her career at Swedish-Match, formerly known as General Cigar, where she was a loyal employee for over 40 years. While she never married or mothered any of her own children, she was affectionately known as “Aunt Sylvie” to her many nieces and nephews who adored her. She was a faithful member of Enterprise Baptist church for many years where she was known for her delicious pound cakes.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Pete Thompson.
She is survived by her siblings, Peggy Thompson and Sammy Taylor (Sue), all of Ashford, Carolyn McDowell (Mac) of Mobile, Byron Taylor of Dothan, Charlotte Rollins (Bud) of Dade City, Florida, Teresa Kirkland (Lamar) of Cottonwood; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the entire staff at Wesley Place for their excellent care, love and support this past year and a half, especially Tami, Kathy, and Pat. They would also like to express their appreciation to the entire staff of Kindred Hospice for these past few months and her primary RN, Susan.
Serving as active pall bearers will be her nephews, Jeffrey Thompson, Patrick McDowell, Jason Kirkland, Chad Kirkland, Joe Alderman, and Jake Singleton.
