Mr. Albert Lamar Helms, a resident of Ozark, died early Monday morning, May 4, 2020, at his home. He was 68 years old.
Funeral services for Mr. Helms will be graveside 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 7, 2020, in Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery in Covington County with Reverend William Hart officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.
Mr. Helms was born October 11, 1951 in Covington County, Alabama to the late Preston Albert Helms and Jewell Edith Hughes Helms. He graduated from Florala High School in 1971. Lamar learned to weld at Wallace College in Midland City. He worked with Carter Manufacturing in Ariton and with Sable Steel in Dothan. Lamar drove a truck for Patterson Trucking for ten years and later was a pit-master for Larry’s Bar-B-Que in Daleville and Dothan. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Lamar cherished his pet chihuahua, Sweet Pea and his pug, Bubba. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Allen Helms.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Jo Ann Miller Helms of Ozark; one sister and brother-in-law, Lavera and Paul Rodgers of Geneva; nieces and nephews, Donna Granger (Mike) of Tuscumbia, Alabama, Paula Jones (LaDon) of Dothan, Michelle Rodgers of Chancellor, Alabama; great nieces and nephews, Andrew Paul and Hanna Price, Blake and Millie Fain, Jake and Kate Fain, E Dee and Adam Mitchell; great-great nieces and nephews, Ryles and Ellie Kat Fain, Rylee Claire Price.
